Cunard Line has announced that it will close registrations for Queen Mary 2’s historic circumnavigation of Australia at 5pm (AEST) on Wednesday June 16.
Only Cunard past passengers and people who have registered their interest online will be able to book on the voyage when sales open at 9am (AEST) on July 13. Sales to the general public will not open until the following day.
Cunard Line said today it expected cabins on the February 2012 voyage to be in strong demand.
“Almost 3000 people have already registered their interest, and with most registrations covering two people, that means we have close to 6000 people indicating they want to be part of history on this voyage,” said Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia which represents Cunard Line.
“It’s a spectacular response and one that underlines just how special this voyage will be.”
Ms Sherry said three round-Australia sectors would be offered to passengers – 22 nights sailing from Sydney on February 14, 2012, 20 nights sailing from Fremantle on February 8 and 21 nights sailing from Adelaide on February 11. Fares will be announced late June.
Expressions of interest can still be logged at www.queenmary2.com.au/register
Cunard Line said that each registered person would be able to book one cabin only on the voyage.
The largest ship ever to visit Australia, Queen Mary 2 will call at eight Australian ports during her circumnavigation including Sydney, Fremantle, Adelaide and the Whitsundays as well as maiden visits to Cairns (Yorkey’s Knob), Darwin, Melbourne and Brisbane. Her circumnavigation will also include a call at Bali.
The Australian deployment will be the longest Queen Mary 2 has been based in one country outside of her northern hemisphere homeports of Southampton and New York.
Designed to reflect the best of Cunard’s heritage and traditions, Queen Mary 2 is one of the most spacious ships at sea. She carries 2620 guests and more than 1200 crew, and boasts 10 restaurants, five pools, the largest ballroom at sea, the largest library at sea and the world’s first floating planetarium.
