Pet Porpoise Pool Recognised As One Of The Best

Coffs Harbour is now home to the best tourist attraction in Australia, after the Pet Porpoise Pool won the top prize at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Melbourne last weekend.
Size doesn’t matter when it comes to winning awards for the Pet Porpoise Pool.

“We’ve proved that even a small park like the Pet Porpoise Pool can win a national tourism award,” chief executive officer Paige Sinclair said.
The award was one of 26 presented and was for tourism attractions that have mostly domestic visitors, as opposed to the Major Tourism Attraction category that has more international tourists.

“I nearly fell off the chair, it came as a complete surprise, we were up against some big players,” Paige said. “We’re all just over the moon, although I don’t think it’s sunk into everyone yet.”

Awards are mounting for the popular marine attraction, which has won the regional award for the last three years and the last two state awards in the same category.

NSW had more winners than any other state in the awards and Minister for Tourism Jodi McKay said the awards show that tourism in NSW sets the benchmark. “The winners are a fine example of the unique tourism product offered to travellers, and plays a critical role in bringing out the best in what NSW has to offer” she said.

The award selection process began in July and Paige said it was really about writing a submission that reflects the passion of the Park and its staff.

“The Pet Porpoise Pool is different, because we do something no one else does – you can get close and personal with our beautiful marine animals,” Paige said.
“Everyone can get kissed by dolphins and seals, and can be touched by magic.”
