US hand luggage restrictions eased

Restrictions limiting passengers flying to and from the US to one piece of hand luggage have been lifted, according to the official British Airways Twitter page.

The limit was imposed after the attempted terrorist attack on a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit in December, but the following tweet from British Airways yesterday (April 12) confirms passengers can now once again carry one piece of luggage plus an additional laptop case or handbag:

“Hand baggage allowance restrictions to & from the US has been lifted. Customers can now take TWO pieces on all flts/cabins.”

Note though that the carrier recently clarified what counts as the second piece of hand luggage, stating that it must not measure more than 45cm x 36cm x 20cm (including the handle and pockets) to ensure that it fits under the seat in front of you. The maximum dimensions for the main piece of hand luggage remain 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.
